Because the early bird catches…well, something better than worms

We all have that one friend – yeah, you know the one. They’ve run a marathon, mastered a new language, baked a three-tier cake for a colleague they barely like, and found inner peace through a 60 minute meditation... all before your first alarm (of 10) has gone off.
Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration of what a human can achieve in one morning but you catch our drift, right? We all know someone seemingly superhuman like that.
Their ability to leap out of bed and start their day with such zest and love for life is admirable (go on, admit it, it is), and we all secretly – even if just a little – wish we could do the same.
Well, guess what? Becoming that person is absolutely within your reach.
It might not happen overnight, or even by next week, but once you embrace the habit of rising early, it becomes a positive addiction that's hard to shake off.
Of course, this might not resonate with everyone, especially those working shifts or night owls in hospitality. But for the rest of us, letting precious morning hours slip by before our 9-5s, listen up.
Gaining an extra hour or two each morning can absolutely change your life. And no, we're not talking about ticking off chores, squeezing in a gym session, or reading 10 pages of a boring self-help book.
We're talking about getting up a teeny tiny bit earlier to do things that make your soul happy. It’ll be different for everyone, but here are some ideas:
- Swap your soggy weetbix for a home-cooked gourmet breakfast
- Facetime with a friend you miss who lives across the world
- Spend time playing with your dog
- Read a trashy magazine
- Drive to the beach for sunrise
- Meet a friend for a walk & coffee
- Call your mum
- Spend time gardening
- Do nothing but sip your tea, stare into space and embrace stillness
- Make a DIY ice-bath
- Write a love letter to your best friend and post it on your way to work
- Walk to your local cafe and enjoy a coffee that isn’t to-go
- Bake a batch of brownies for the office (brownie kits are encouraged!)
- Do a really long, deep, stretch sesh
These are just a few examples of how you can spend your 5-9 am before your 9-5 pm.
We’re not talking about doing anything remotely productive, or hitting PBs and smashing goals and trying to “be the best version of yourself” (ick)… it’s about tweaking your AM routine to allow space to do more things that fill your cup.
So, are you ready to set your alarm to "Ridiculously Early" tomorrow? Go on, give it a crack. We’ll do it with you.
Yawn and conquer,
Nakie HQ
