Leave no trace (except footprints): Eco-camping 101

Leave no trace (except footprints): Eco-camping 101

We all love a good camping getaway – the crackle of the campfire, the starry skies, and the great outdoors calling our name.

But just as much as we love these escapes, we're big fans of not disturbing Mother Nature. The goal? To slip in and out of our camping spots so seamlessly, it’s like we were never there.

So, we thought we’d put together our top tips for eco-friendly camping that make sure we leave only footprints and take only memories.

  1. Reusable gear is king

Ditch the disposables and stock up on some reusable camping gear. From water bottles to plates and utensils, the less single-use stuff, the better. Not only will you reduce waste, but you'll also look like a seasoned, eco-smart camper. Plus, who doesn’t love a fancy spork?
  2. Campfire care

Camping isn’t complete without a bangin’ campfire… but let’s keep it responsible. Use established fire rings, keep fires small, and always make sure it’s completely out before you hit the sack.
  3. Waste not, want not

Minimise waste by planning your cook-ups wisely. Prepping food in advance can reduce packaging and leftovers. And if you do have waste, pack it out. Leaving anything behind, even biodegradable items, is a big no-no.
  4. Respect the locals (the animal kind)

Wildlife is part of the camping fun, but remember, we’re the visitors. Keep a respectful distance, don’t feed them, and secure your food to avoid unwelcome midnight snackers (looking at you, sneaky possums).
  5. Eco-friendly products all the way

When you’re out and about in nature, don’t forget your biodegradable soap and eco-friendly sunscreen. These small changes can make a really big difference in keeping the waterways clean and the soil happy.
  6. Stick to the path

Look, as much as it’s fun to explore, try to resist the urge to blaze your own trail. Sticking to designated paths helps protect plant life and prevents erosion. Plus, it’s less work – nature’s already laid out the best routes for you.

So there ya have it, our top tips for becoming one with nature and not leaving behind anything that says, 'I was here.'

Be like a nature ninja – enjoy your adventure, have a blast, but leave no trace.

Happy camping and stay sneaky (in the best possible way!)
