Your guide to finding awe in the ordinary

Your guide to finding awe in the ordinary

Have you ever noticed how kids can get completely captivated by something as simple as a butterfly, a rock, or even a puddle? That wide-eyed wonder and curiosity about the world around us often fades as we grow up, replaced by routines, responsibilities, and general “adulthood”.

Wouldn’t it be amazing to find awe in the ordinary again? Cultivating a sense of wonder in everyday life doesn’t happen by waiting for extraordinary moments… it happens when you find the beauty and magic in the ordinary things around you..

Most of us rush through our day, trying to tick off tasks and move on to the next thing. But wonder rarely shows up when you’re rushing.

So, each day, try taking a moment to slow down and notice the details. Whether it’s the way sunlight filters through your kitchen window, or the way your best friend’s face crinkles when they laugh – there’s so much beauty in these small moments.

Wonder and awe often start with curiosity.

Try looking at your life through a child’s eyes and ask yourself “What if?” or “Why?” Why do leaves change colour? Or how do mobile phones really work (seriously, can someone explain to us how we can hear someone’s voice thousands of kilometres across an ocean?!)

Oftentimes these questions don’t even need answers – they can simply be explained as everyday magic, turning even the most familiar routines into something incredibly fascinating.

If you find it hard to find wonder in your normal routine, remember that it’s easy to stick to what’s comfortable, but wonder often lives just outside our usual experiences.

Try taking a different route home, listening to new music, or striking up a conversation with someone you wouldn’t normally talk to. When you step out of routine, even just a little, you open yourself up to all kinds of surprises – and surprises are what keep life interesting!

The good news is finding awe and wonder in the ordinary doesn’t require big changes – often it’s just a shift in perspective.

By slowing down and staying open to the small surprises around us, we can rediscover that sense of wonder we felt as kids.

Because sometimes, the most magical moments are the ones that are right in front of us.

If you need us, we’ll be looking for awe in our next coffee break.

Yours in eternal curiosity,
